This isn’t a race for a trophy or a personal best – It’s a grueling test of endurance dedicated to the men and women who fought battles for us and who are now fighting silent battles at home. Doug Deaton is an adventure-focused endurance athlete who has cross-trained year-round for over 44 years. His background includes swimming\, cycling\, running\, trail running\, backpacking\, and long-distance endurance rides. He is strongly committed to self-discipline\, steady preparation\, and pushing himself through long endurance challenges. Dogs have been a part of Doug’s family for 44 years\, developing a deep appreciation for their companionship\, loyalty\, and the impact they have on people’s lives. \nDoug will support Battle Buddies Service Dogs for Veterans by riding 1\,400 miles\, combining his love of adventure\, endurance\, dogs\, and self-discipline with a purpose-driven mission. \n \nWhy This Cause?\nFor veterans living with PTSD and Traumatic Brain Injuries\, the world can be a battlefield. Our veterans often face isolation\, anxiety\, and a loss of independence that they once defended. Battle Buddies of the Carolinas changes that by pairing heroes with highly trained service dogs. In a unique partnership with Clemson University\, our dogs are raised and trained by pre-veterinary students. This model creates a powerful circle of impact: For our veterans\, we are restoring confidence\, safety\, and hope. For our dogs\, we are providing purposeful lives with exposure and training they couldn’t receive elsewhere. For our students\, we are providing hands-on experience for the next generation of veterinary professionals as well as expanding their knowledge on community impact. \n  \nHow You Can Help\nDoug is providing the sweat.
